Senate body wants to share details on Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday recommended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to share details of efforts so far made in an in-camera meeting regarding the Kashmir issue and the global stance thereon.
The committee, which met here with its Chairman Senator Prof Sajid Mir in the chair, took a serious notice of the absence of the minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and the members were of the view that the minister’s presence was imperative to discuss policy matters.
The meeting was attended by Senator Falak Naz, Senator Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan, Senator Muhammad Qasim, Senator Shahdat Awan, Senator Kamran Michael, Senator Shaheen Khalid Butt and senior officers from the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). ....

ISLAMABAD: As the Senate met on Monday for its first regular session of a new parliamentary year, Leader of Opposition Yusuf Raza Gilani vowed to carry with him the entire opposition and also become the voice of the government, whereas the PML-N pledged to play its independent role as a real opposition.
The new session was marred by loud charges and counter-charges from some senators of the opposition benches and those in the treasury, who had apparently supported Gilani to become the opposition leader. The opposition was divided, mainly into two groups and hence the PDM internal rift reached the Senate. There was a strong demand from the PML-N for investigation into the installation of spy cameras during the Senate elections of chairman and deputy chairman. ....
