Assemblymember Amy Paulin (D-Scarsdale) announced the passage of her legislation which bans the use of pesticides at children’s day and overnight camps. It is the first bill in the country banning pesticides at camps.
New York State enacted anti-pesticide laws for public and non-public schools in 2011 as part of the New York State Child Safe Playing Fields Act. This bill expands the existing law to protect children from these toxic chemicals at camps.
According to a 2016 report by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, “Children are at greatest risk from exposure to hazardous pesticides because of their developing systems, smaller size, and faster metabolisms.” In addition, children are more likely to come into direct contact with pesticides when at play, especially while running, sitting, and playing on treated lawns and fields; they are also at ris ....

Hyzon Motors buys former Branson building, expanding operations in HF

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Thursday, February 18, that fuel cell vehicle company HYZON Motors, established by Asia-based Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, will further grow its operations in the Village of Honeoye Falls in Monroe County, creating 100 new jobs over the next three years. The next generation fuel cell heavy vehicle supplier will renovate 78,000 square-feet of existing building space on Quaker Meeting House Road, the former Branson plant, where the company will manufacture next-gen fuel cells for heavy- and medium-duty commercial vehicles. HYZON Motors first established its US operations in 2020 in Honeoye Falls. The company has developed hydrogen fuel cell stacks that can provide up 150kW of power, and expect to launch fuel cell systems capable of 300kW in 2022. ....

On Thursday night, Henrietta Public Library kicks off a series of virtual talks that highlight participants of the “In This Moment: Revolution Reckoning Reparation” project, a series of 10 chapbooks that profile local Black leaders, and are assembled by teams of Black writers and photographers. “In This Moment” aims to highlight the scope of revolutionary work happening in Rochester, and each of the subjects contribute to the vibrancy of the city today. The subjects of the project include artist Shawn Dunwoody, University of Rochester Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Visual and Cultural Studies Kathryn Mariner, and state Senator Samra Brouk. The project is the creation of curator Amanda Chestnut and coordinator Jeanne Strazzabosco, and it will be published throughout 2 ....
