Olympic Team USA Pay Disparity Between Men & Women Competing in Same Sport

Tuesday, July 20, 2021
Legislation recently reintroduced by Senators Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) joins a growing number of federal bills on pay equity for female athletes.
The “Equal Pay for Team USA” Act of 2021, first introduced in 2019, would require equal pay for all athletes representing the United States in international sporting competitions, regardless of the athlete’s gender. This comes less than a month after the “Even Playing Field” Act, another bill addressing pay equity for female athletes, was reintroduced.
Currently, men and women representing Team USA in the same sport can receive different compensation, which can result in a gender-based pay disparity. The disparity in pay between men’s and women’s national teams was highlighted after the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) victory in the 2019 FIFA World Cup finals. The USWNT sued the U.S. Soccer Federation for equal pay under the Equal Pay Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, eventually settling some claims.

Services Signal Intent to Roll Back Trump Administration Changes to ESA Rules
On June 4, 2021, the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) (together, the Services) issued a press release announcing their plans to initiate a series of rulemakings in the coming months to revise, rescind, or reinstate Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations finalized by the prior administration. The Services identified the five following ESA rulemakings:
Revise regulations for interagency cooperation. On August 27, 2019, the Services published a final rule revising the regulations governing ESA section 7 consultation. In part, this rule revised key terms regarding the identification of environmental baseline conditions, potential effects, and the level of causation and certainty required in the review of effects of an action on species and critical habitat.  The rule also clarified what constitutes adverse modification of critical habitat and adopted deadlines for the completion of informal consultation. The Services now anticipate revising the definition of “effects of the action” and associated provisions, and are considering additional revisions.

Senate to give richest man on the planet $10 billion in welfare
Jeff Bezos now has a space flight company, Blue Origin, that lost out on a $2.89 billion NASA contract to build a system to land astronauts on the moon in 2024, according to a Fox Business report.
Bezos, the richest man on earth, lost to Elon Musk’s SpaceX.  Musk’s bid was lower – a lot lower, according to Fox.
Poor Bezos lost his bid.
But, don’t worry, the Senate has come to his rescue. They plan to give him $10 billion in corporate welfare.
Rand Paul has a question for them: “Have you no decency?” Read on.

Dam Removal Rejection Pt 2 - AG INFORMATION NETWORK OF THE WEST

Dam Removal Rejection Pt 2
Tuesday May 18th, 2021
I’m Bob Larson. The proposed removal of four dams on the lower Snake River is a bad idea. At least, as far as U.S.
Representative Dan Newhouse is concerned. He says while Idaho Republican Mike Simpson, who proposed the removal, is a valued colleague, this is just not the answer for saving salmon …
NEWHOUSE … “I agree with the concern that this jeopardizes not only the agricultural industry in the Pacific Northwest, but so many other things that have been made possible because many of the benefits the dams provide, not the least of which is clean, carbon free, renewable hydroelectric energy.”

POINT ROBERTS, Wash. — After a successful vaccination rollout, the small town of Point Roberts, Washington, is asking elected officials to share their excess supply with their Canadian neighbors.
Point Roberts is surrounded by water on three sides and shares its only land border with Canada. The small town has been isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic due to extended border closures between the two countries.
