LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday told the Lahore High Court that development works in the province had been halted and day to day affairs were being run through administrators only.
Chief Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik stated this during the hearing of petitions seeking implementation of the Supreme Courtâs judgement about restoration of the local governments in the province. The top bureaucrat told the court that the committee formed to implement the judgment held its first meeting on Friday. He said the committee sought two weeks to come up with a plan for the restoration of the LG system. Lahore cityâs lord mayor retired Col Mubashir Javed and other representatives opposed the request of the government for more time. ....

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Punjab government to submit a plan on restoration of the local government system in the province in light of a judgement passed by the Supreme Court.
Justice Ayesha A Malik was hearing a set of petitions seeking implementation of the SC judgement about restoration of local governments in the province. Chief Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik told the court that a committee formed to deliberate upon the judgement and the restoration of the LG system was scheduled to meet after Eid holidays. ....

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday allowed a week’s time to the Punjab government to come up with a plan for restoration of the local government system in the province in the light of a judgement passed by the Supreme Court.
Justice Ayesha A Malik was hearing a set of petitions seeking implementation of the SC judgement about restoration of local governments in the province.The provincial government has meanwhile notified constitution of four special committees/transition teams at provincial, divisional, district and tehsil level for the restoration of the local bodies’ institutions in line with the March 25 short order and subsequent detailed judgment issued by the Supreme Court on July 6. ....

In a viral video, Awan yelled at AC Sonia Sadaf and the internet isn t having any of it.
Firdous Ashiq Awan, the special assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on information and culture, took a trip to a Sialkot bazaar on Sunday and inspected the quality of goods being sold there. When she found that the fresh fruit there was not up to her standards, she lambasted Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf at a stall in a truly uncivil display of unwarranted aggression and showmanship.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, in which Awan can be seen yelling at and scolding the AC in public, for poor quality of food . She went on ruthlessly until AC Sadaf walked off. Sadaf did try to explain herself but couldn t get a word in edgewise during Awan s breathless rant. ....

LAHORE: The commission being constituted under an ordinance to legalise illegal housing schemes, including those falling in green areas, can be challenged in courts, says a lawyer.
Lawyer Zafar Iqbal Kalanauri calls the ordinance unlawful, unconstitutional, and unethical that was prepared and issued a certain class of society. “Though, it is written in the ordinance that no court shall take cognizance of any matter covered under its provisions, the ordinance, the composition of the commission and the decision taken by it to regularize illegal housing schemes can be challenged in the high court under article 199 of the constitution,” he explained. “However, its decision cannot be heard by the lower courts (civil and session courts) under this ordinance,” he clarified. ....
