Sydney has woken to its harshest COVID-19 restrictions since the pandemic began after 111 cases were recorded yesterday.
Construction has been halted and only certain essential retail stores remain open in tough new COVID-19 rules that have been put in place until at least July 30.
In the Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown and Liverpool local government areas it is now only emergency serviceÂ and healthcare workers who can leave their home for work.

Transport Workers Union
The TWU is demanding answers from Hanson Concrete after two of its truck drivers in Greenacre tested positive for COVID, with 97 other workers now in isolation.
The drivers deliver concrete to major infrastructure projects like the WestConnex.
Drivers at the site learned of the infection through union delegates rather than the company. The TWU understands that the first Covid case tested positive last Friday or Saturday. A second case was tested positive on Monday the 12th of July.
NSW Health shut the company’s operations down early today after issuing a close contact notice last night. The TWU understand that both employee and owner drivers from a range of Hanson yards, from Kulnura on the Central Coast, Greenacre and other Sydney yards are in isolation. ....

The Transport Workers’ Union is warning about delays to stock for Christmas as trucks again face delays because of border closures.
Truck drivers have faced up to 5 hours of delays entering Victoria as confusion mounts over permits for freight and as authorities fail to open truck lanes.
The TWU wants to see a national approach to border closures which automatically kicks into place and which should include designated lanes for trucks alone.
The TWU is also seeking a change to Border Permits that ensures transport operators are not having to apply for a permit every trip. ....
