Phoenix, Arizona - Two years ago this Sunday, Governor Doug Ducey signed the Drought Contingency Plan, a historic effort by Arizona and six other western states to manage one of their most precious resources: water. As part of the multi-state Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), Arizona is committed to conserving more water from the Colorado River.
Alongside the plan, Governor Ducey created the Governor s Water Augmentation Innovation and Conservation Council and signed into law the Groundwater Conservation Grant program, which helps protect Arizona’s groundwater resources by focusing on water education, innovation and technology. ....

Arizona’s groundwater supply is finite and dwindling, even in the areas of the state that regulate its use. We need to use less. But how much are we really willing to conserve?
It’s a key question to ponder in 2021.
Arizona has spent the last year studying concepts to include in its fifth groundwater management plans. State law requires regular updates to these plans, which set mandatory conservation measures for cities, farmers and industrial users in five groundwater Active Management Areas (AMAs) – Phoenix, Pinal, Tucson, Prescott and Santa Cruz. ....
