Palomar Medical Center s chief medical officer, Dr. Omar Khawaja, told NBC 7 that delivering two doses isn’t twice as difficult for medical teams, it s five to 10 times more difficult due to temperature controls, the expiration of the vaccines and how stable it is after it s drawn up by a pharmacist are all factors to consider, Khawaja said.

People rolling up their sleeves to get their COVID-19 vaccine at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon Sunday were relieved to get their one and only dose of the Johnson & Johnson shot before supply runs short.
“We know what’s happening with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine so I had to make sure I got here today,” said David Johnson, a La Mesa resident who received his dose alongside his wife, Betty, after making their appointments last Sunday. ....

California is expected to see a significant drop in the number of Johnson & Johnson vaccines it receives next week as millions more residents become eligible. Cierra Johnson reports.
“I’m glad it’s done. I don’t have to think about it anymore,” said Jenny Douglas of Encinitas after her shot was given by firefighters who are part of Operation Collaboration.
Several people told NBC 7 they felt lucky to get their shots. A few, like Lindley Mesa, said they felt bad that more people couldn’t be in their shoes.
“I was looking online for a couple of weeks and as soon as I could get one, it didn’t matter what my schedule was, Mesa said. “Today I was glad to get in.” ....

“They came in, gave me my shot, waited their 15 minutes, said goodbye and left, Kear said. It’s really a pleasure to be able to say, I have a poke in my arm.
Kear said she is one step closer to be able to hug her family members.
Now my goal is to hug and I can’t wait, it’s going to be so exciting, she said laughing.
Kear s daughter reached out to NBC 7 after seeing an NBC story about another homebound senior getting his shot to share her mother’s concerns, hoping it will pave the way to a vaccination. ....
