Three men lucky to be alive after boat flips on South Coast

Three people are lucky to be alive after their boat overturned during an unsuccessful bar crossing at Merimbula yesterday.
The three men, who are all related and range in age from 16 to 55, had attempted to cross the Merimbula coastal bar about 8am yesterday despite the weather warning for hazardous surf conditions.
Luckily all three were wearing lifejackets when their 4.8 metre half cabin runabout was swamped and flipped by a wave, the eldest of the trio was momentarily trapped in the upturned cabin.
Their lifejacket were able to keep them afloat before surfers were able to bring them to shore on Main Beach - escaping with only cuts. ....

Returning students tested, COVID-19 positive rates 'very low' | News

More than 2,000 returning undergraduate students and employees at Campbell University have been tested for COVID-19 upon their return from winter break, and through Tuesday, the percentage of positive tests was below 1 percent, according to University officials. 
The mass testing event held Jan. 10-14 on the second floor of the Oscar N. Harris Student Union was the main component of Operation Safe Return, the University’s program to ensure a safe campus as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the state. 
Of the first 1,800-plus students and staff tested (Wednesdays results are pending), 16 cases came back positive.
“The process was incredibly smooth with check-in and screening stations,” said Dr. Nicholas Pennings, chair of family medicine for the med school and director of the Campbell University Health Center. “Most of the positive results were in student who had no symptoms or just minor symptoms they didn’t think were related ....
