CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - This year has been tough for everyone, but health care workers and first responders have made big sacrifices, and now continue to work through the holidays.
While nurses and police officers say working on holidays and missing out on family is hard, they are making the most of it with those around them.
“This is our family. I see more of these people than I have seen my own family, this year specifically, but every year,” UVA COVID-19 ICU Nurse Heidi Mock said. “It’s not like spending the holidays with a stranger, this is my family.” ....

ORANGE COUNTY (KABC) The support for nurses demonstrating outside South Coast Global Medical Center is clear. It was one of four protests at Orange County hospitals.
Nurses say that their safety and patient lives are at risk after the state allowed their hospital, part of KPC Health, to increase the patient to nurse ratio in the middle of a pandemic.
So instead of giving us more nurses we got more work. Patients are going to die, nurses are gonna break, nurses are exhausted, says Karen Rodriguez, a registered nurse. ....

Los Angeles  The nurses of California are afraid. It s Christmas Eve, and they aren t home with their families. They are working, always working, completely gowned up and worn down.
They re frightened by what people are doing, or not doing, during a coronavirus pandemic that has already killed more than 320,000 nationwide and shows no signs of slowing down.
They re even more terrified of what s next.
