SEVIERVILLE A Sevier County grand jury charged a Gatlinburg woman with vehicular homicide based on evidence from a Sept. 26 wreck that claimed the life of a 66-year-old Sevierville man.
Amanda Karol Bright, 40, of 335 Buhrs Way, was allegedly driving while intoxicated when she took the life of Ulra Winford McCollum.
The evidence was taken straight to the grand jury when it met earlier this month. It was the first time the panel had been convened in months, as the Tennessee Supreme Court suspended many court activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The court documents show Bright was also charged with reckless endangerment, DUI, driving on a suspended license, driving left of center, and failure to exercise due care. ....

New COVID-19 vaccination events coming to Sevier


SEVIERVILLE — Sevier County residents and people who work here can now sign up for a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine to be administered at four special “first-dose vaccination pods” set to be held in May.
These special vaccination events will be Monday, May 3, and Tuesday, May 4, at the Sevier County Health Department in Sevierville; Monday, May 17, at Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg; and Monday, May 24, at the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge.
Participants must schedule an appointment in advance and can do so by going to https://bit.ly/32sAr1d or by calling 865-774-3944.
“This is a way we hope to get more of our residents and those who work in Sevier County vaccinated. The more people we get vaccinated the more protection the county has and the more we can get back to normal,” said Joe Ayers, director of the Sevier County Emergency Management Agency. ....

Health department expands vaccine hours


 
Beginning Monday, April 12, the Sevier County Health Department COVID-19 vaccination site at the Sevier County Health Department will be open to provide vaccinations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday each week.
 
“We’re eager to offer these additional opportunities for people to get their COVID-19 vaccinations in a way that works more conveniently with their schedules,” said Sevier County Health Director Emma Davis.
“The more people in Sevier County who choose to get their vaccinations, the sooner our community can return to normal day-to-day activities.”
The Sevier County Health Department offers COVID-19 vaccination by appointment. To book an appointment, visit Vaccinate.tn.gov and click the blue “Proceed to COVID-19 questionnaire” button at the bottom of the page to start registration. SPD altering traffic around Blanton Drive during COVID-19 vaccinations


SEVIERVILLE — Sevierville Police are adjusting traffic flow on Blanton Drive on weekday afternoons to reduce congestion in the area while people are getting COVID-19 vaccinations at the Sevier County Health Department.
Starting Thursday, Blanton Drive will be closed to thru traffic from 1 p.m. until 3:15 p.m., when parents pick up their children at Sevierville Primary.
Patients who are going to the Sevier County Health Department during that time should use Middle Creek Road to access the department. The school will not be accessible during that time from Middle Creek, police said.
Parents going to wait to pick up their children should enter the school from Veterans Boulevard and turn onto Blanton Drive from there. ....
