Dancing with the Stars raises $188,000

SEVIERVILLE
The United Way of Sevier Countyâs Dancing with the Stars event was a rousing success again this year, raising an estimated $188,000.
The third annual event featured five dancers from throughout Sevier County: Charles Ottolini and Robin Reagan, with choreographer Jill Linn Smith; Lucas Harkleroad and Megan McClure, with choreographer Lessie McCarter; Montay Calloway and Amy Williams, with choreographer Todd McCall; AJ Bennett and Amanda Marr, with choreographer Enchantee Mace; and Robert Tino and Nancy Rader, with choreographer Sierra Williams.
Winning the Peopleâs Choice Award was Robert Tino and Nancy Rader, who raised $52,318 of the estimated $188,000 donated to United Way for the annual fundraiser. ....

Bearded Sinners collecting items for SMARM

SEVIERVILLE â This time, the blankets are for humans.
Members of the Sevier County chapter of the Bearded Sinners have previously gathered blankets, pet food and other supplies for Sevier Animal Care Center. Theyâre working now to collect items that will be donated to Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries.
Bearded Sinners is a nationwide service organization, and the local chapter now has 12 members.
âWe like to do the animal shelter stuff,â said member Douglas Pope, adding that the group seeks out a variety of nonprofits for their monthly service projects.
The Bearded Sinners have provided pizza for the youngsters who attend the Pigeon Forge branch of Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains. ....

Construction to start on SFD's newest station

SEVIERVILLE â Construction of the cityâs newest fire station is set to begin soon at 122 Prince St.
The downtown station, Sevierville Fire Station 3, is being built on the site of the cityâs first fire station.
The new station, which will be about 10,000 square feet and have three apparatus bays, will be replacing the former main station, which relocated to Dolly Parton Parkway in 2019. The estimated completion date is January/February 2022.
The $4.6 million station will primarily serve downtown, West Main Street, Old Knoxville Highway and Gist Creek areas and portions of Highway 66.
âThere will be six firefighters who stay at this station once it is open,â Chief Matt Henderson said during the cityâs recent Public Building Authority meeting. ....

KUB has restored power to nearly all customers minus about 50 individuals spread out across the outer rural areas of Knox County, but larger outages persist in rugged parts of Sevier and Cocke Counties that are impacting thousands.
Sevier County Electric System reported 1,768 customers without power as of 4:15 p.m. Monday as crews continue to work around challenges from wet soil and rugged terrain. Most of the outages were reported across the more remote sections of the foothills outside Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. ....
