Planning Underway For COVID-19 Clinics to Vaccinate 12 to 15-Year-Olds


“Definitely, I’m a nurse and during the first wave was on the COVID floor,” said Kate Enders of Cheshire.
Enders said she has already signed up her son for a tentative clinic being planned by the school district for kids age 12 to 15.
“The survey went out about 24 hours ago and we have over 500 parents that have responded looking to receive the vaccine,” said Jeff Solan, Cheshire Public Schools superintendent. “I think in our community, there s a lot of desire to ensure that we re doing everything we can to stop the spread and to make sure our students can engage in school.” ....

Connecticut is the first state to have more than half its adults fully vaccinated for COVID-19

HARTFORD While Connecticut just achieved the highest vaccination rate in the nation, Gov. Ned Lamont and state officials continue to worry about COVID-19 complacency stymieing the state’s progress.
Lamont on Monday spotlighted rankings from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing Connecticut is the first state to fully vaccinate more than 50% of its population over age 18.
The 50.3% rate reported Monday barely topped that threshold, and several others states were close behind New Mexico with 49.9% full vaccinated, South Dakota with 49.8%, and Maine with 49.3%.
“We’re the first state in the country to have over half of adults fully vaccinated. That is an extraordinary achievement that allows the reopening to continue in a prudent way,” Lamont said. “It makes such a big difference.” ....

CHESHIRE — A local health official blamed the spike of COVID-19 cases among Cheshire High School students on a failure to follow public health precautions, not a variant of the virus.
“To our knowledge, this uptick in COVID-19 cases for the town of Cheshire is not due to the variant, it’s due to people not practicing the safe COVID-19 mitigation strategies,” said Kathryn Glendon, a public health specialist with the Chesprocott Health District, which includes Cheshire.  ....

CHESHIRE — When the pandemic first hit, places like Elim Park Place became ground zero for the fight against the virus
Luckily, Elim Park Place,  a large senior living facility, can now officially report nearly 100% of all residents are vaccinated, and 75% of the staff has been inoculated as well. Elim Park reported in February that the total number of vaccines given was 1,014. ....
