The House of Representatives, after a thirty-minute opening of screening session of nominated Service Chiefs on Thursday, went along with the nominees into a closed session.
The lawmakers, before the closed session, through the Chairman of the screening committee, Rep. Babajimi Benson, on behalf of the committee, recalled that the” House of Representatives at its plenary on 10th February 2021, read a request from Mr President and Commander-in-Chief informing the House of the nomination of Major-General Lucky E.O Irabor, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo and Air Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao, for appointment as Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Air Staff for the Armed Forces of the Federation. Service Chiefs: Why Buhari delayed - Gbajabiamila


House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, says President Muhammadu Buhari delayed change of Service Chiefs because he was “studying the situation”.
Gbajabiamila said this in chat with reporters after a meeting with Buhari at the State House on Wednesday.
The Speaker noted that the National Assembly was in support of the president’s decision to rejig the country’s security architecture.
The lawmaker assured that the federal legislature will assist the new military heads to operate efficiently.
“The appointment of new Service Chiefs is what everybody has been clamouring for – the House, the Senate and the public.
“The president took his time, he studied the situation very well and did it at the right time that he thought he should do it. We are in support of what he has done.” ....
