Human rights a cornerstone of Qatar's policy: NHRC official

Doha: The Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, has said that human rights are a fundamental pillar of Qatar’s policy and its National Vision 2030.
While speaking to Qatar Radio recently, Al Kuwari said, “Since Qatar developed the first building block of the constitution, it has placed the pillars of human rights as a strategic choice.
“The Qatari Constitution, which was issued in 2004, consists of 150 articles, among 100 of which talk about human rights.”
“We see the human rights situation in Qatar today completely different. People in Qatar enjoy all their rights and more, because this Qatari constitution has provided the basis for these,” Al Kuwari added. ....

Doha: Faculty at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been awarded two substantial three-year research grants under the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF)-TÜBİTAK Joint Funding Program. The competitive third cycle of the program was held under the theme of ‘Smart Cities’.
HBKU’s Dr. Marwa Qaraqe, Lead Principal Investigator, and Dr. David Yang, Principal Investigator, both Assistant Professors at the Information and Technology Computing Division at CSE, with faculty from Texas A&M at Qatar (TAMUQ) as principal investigators, were awarded a grant for “Intelligent Public Safety Platform for Smart Cities”. The value of the grant is estimated at $825,000 for the Qatar team and $592,000 for Gebze Technical University and Ozyegin University, as Turkish collaborators. ....

Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) organised a seminar under the title ‘Developing human rights mechanisms during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond in various sectors’ with the participation of the Ministries of Public Health and the Interior.
This seminar comes within the framework of the National Human Rights Committee’s celebrations of the International Human Rights Day, which is marked this year under the slogan “Better re-building.”
Deputy Chairman of the NHRC Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, in his speech, stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the interests of various state institutions in all their sectors, especially those related to direct interaction with the public. ....
