SOMERSET Kathy Souza will be the town s newest member of the Board of Selectmen after she won Monday s special election with 57% of the vote. “I’m thrilled with the results. Souza won 1,200 of the 2,118 ballots cast, beating out her sole opponent, former School Committee member Melissa Terra. SOMERSET Two potential candidates have thrown their hats in the ring to join the Somerset Board of Selectmen after a special election this July. Earlier this month, then-Selectman Holly McNamara abruptly resigned from the board, leaving just two members: chair Lorne Lawless and newly elected member Allen Smith. The special election to fill her seat will be on Monday, July 12, according to the town clerk s office. Nomination papers became available on April 26, and are due back on May 24. Potential candidates must collect signatures from at least 50 registered voters in Somerset to appear on the ballot.
