Two Christian County High School students have been named members of the Class of 2021 Governor’s Scholars Program. Communications Director John Rittenhouse with the Christian County School District announced Thursday afternoon that Autumn Bell and Jada Poindexter were selected for the program. Statewide, he says almost 1,700 applications submitted by outstanding young Kentuckians. The Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. The program that was established in 1983 provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. According to a news release from CCPS Spokesperson John Rittenhouse, Christian County High School’s Autumn Bell and Hopkinsville High School’s Jada Poindexter have been named members of the Class of 2021 Governor’s Scholars program. Members of the Christian County school board heard an update on the Racial Educational Equity Plan during the Thursday night workshop meeting. Before the plan was presented, Jada Poindexter, an 11th grader at Hopkinsville High School, declared February as Black History Month for the school district. Superintendent Chris Bentzel said the committee formed and went to work over the summer to create the plan. Kim Stevenson, Director of Alternative Programs, shared the plan and explained why the committee was formed. ....
