Lara Kaufmann Has Spent More Than A Decade Making Greenville Downtown Airport A Destination

Volunteers helped clean up the playground at the Greenville Downtown Airport.
She doesn’t fly, but Lara Kaufmann soars when she talks about her job at Greenville Downtown Airport.
“There wasn’t a position, so they created one for me,” says Kaufmann, who is now associate director of the airfield, known by its code GMU.
Her story takes off in 2009 when she moved to Greenville and pitched the idea that the city’s oldest airstrip needed a restaurant and playground.
The divorced mom with two boys had recently taken flight from Atlanta. ....
