NLC Needs To Transform To Be Relevant To Workers And The Nigerian Masses By Chom Bagu

NLC Needs To Transform To Be Relevant To Workers And The Nigerian Masses By Chom Bagu
It is clear that the Nigeria public service must change whether we like it or not, it is the law of nature. This change is not going to be easy, so trade unions must muster the ability and capacity to constructively engage so that hardships of transiting to the new century economic and governance are not borne by workers alone. The NLC must constructively engage the Kaduna State Government on the current issues that led to the current strike action. The issues should be addressed on their merits and demerits, and not by emotions. ....

NLC and the transformation necessary for staying relevant, By Chom Bagu

Nigeria needs a Developmental Labour Movement that will advocate for a progressive development agenda.
Nigeria needs a Developmental Labour Movement that will advocate for a progressive development agenda. With a developmental state and a developmental Labour movement, Nigeria can smoothly cross into the 21
st Century, while engaging in negotiations that are based on well researched positions and using modern tools.
It has been a while since the Nigerian labour movement, particularly the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), bared its fangs (some say broken teeth). Many have given up on the Congress as a bunch of self-serving labour aristocrats making hay while the sun shines. This view is not unconnected to the fact that during the several rounds of oil price increases, the NLC was loud in its silence. ....

Innocent Chukwuma: Fulfilled Purpose and Dying Empty, By Omano Edigheji

Innocent Chukwuma: Fulfilled Purpose and Dying Empty, By Omano Edigheji
Inno, you played your part as a positive change agent to make Nigeria, in particular, and the world, in general, a better place.
Inno, in your life, you lived a life of purpose.  In the short time you lived in this world, you clearly identified your life purpose, fulfilled it and died empty, after given it your all. Inno, like Apostle Paul, you fought the good fight. You finished the course and you kept the faith. Your integrity and dedication to humanity were unquestionable.
The goal of life is not to die old but to die empty. I want you to die with nothing else to do. I want you to die because you have poured out all of your dreams, ideas, visions, books, music, inventions, publications, that you died empty. You died because there is nothing to keep you alive. You have done what you were born to do and that is the greatest service to humanity. – ....

Daily Trust - An author's panacea for democracy without development

Is this however the case in Nigeria? This is a poser which Dr. Omano Edigheji unravelled in his newly presented 197-page book titled, “Nigeria Democracy Without Development: How to fix it” published by A’lime Media Limited.
The author who is a renowned political economist, development practitioner and governance expert is concerned that democracy has only survived for over two decades without commensurate developmental trajectory.
“This book makes a worthy argument for a democracy of purpose. It is a timely call for democracy to propel institutions and measures that substantially improve the lives of citizens, develop the economy and improve the processes for selecting and electing leaders,” said Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in praising the book. ....
