ZANESVILLE - As Ohio pushes for more body-worn camera usage in law enforcement, one of Muskingum County s largest law enforcement agencies sees its value but worries about costs. I m a huge proponent of body cameras, Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said. There s just so much involved that people don t take time to think about and understand. When a law enforcement agency buys body-worn cameras, they re not just purchasing the devices. Thousands of dollars will follow to store footage in the cloud and hire extra personnel to handle public records. While other small local agencies have them, equipping the sheriff s 31 primary response and 12 school resource officers is a harder bet. According to Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury, the same goes for his 56-officer force.
WHIZ News Eight charged in Muskingum County Drug Investigation ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A Muskingum County Grand Jury indicted eight individuals after a long-term investigation that started in 2019, involving effort from several local, state and federal agencies. Authorities say the investigation began in 2019 when members of the Muskingum County/Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit found out about a group of individuals from Columbus who had moved to the Zanesville area with the intention to sell methamphetamine and fentanyl. Approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 2 pounds of fentanyl were seized during the investigation along with 13 firearms and $9,000 in cash. “When you look at these charges, and you look at the first felonies, the number of first felonies that are involved in this case, involving a pattern of corrupt activity, it basically shows the public that this case involves a large group of people dealing with a high volume amount of drugs,” Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said.
