Hickman High School senior Justin Eddy named Presidential Scholar At the end of the school year, Columbia students are celebrating their academic victories including perfect ACT scores, National Merit Scholarships and one Presidential Scholar. Justin Eddy, a senior at Hickman High School, was named a Presidential Scholar  the school s first in 10 years and the 19th in its history. Justin was one of 20 students receiving the honor nationwide for career and technical education. There also were 20 students recognized in the arts. Two students also are chosen in each state for academic achievement. Justin, 18, thrived and excelled in FFA at Hickman. He had leadership roles including chapter president, area president and now state president.

View Comments Fiona Wu s parents were the first to learn about the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program and urged her to apply. The Greenwood Laboratory School senior knew the prestigious honor was a long shot, even for the most accomplished high school seniors. Each year, up to 161 students  as few as two from each state  are selected. Wu, the daughter of Shuo-Sheng Wu and Xiaomin Qui, made the initial cut, listed as a candidate for the honor in early January along with nearly 100 Missouri seniors. She recently advanced, named one of 625 semifinalists in the U.S. including just 11 from Missouri. On the short list, she is the only one from the Springfield area.

MISSOURI FFA WILL HONOR MEMBERS APRIL 30-MAY 1 IN SEDALIA

This year’s convention theme is “Show-Me More”. Due to COVID-19-related health concerns, attendance at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention will be by invitation only. Sessions will be live-streamed at livestream.com/modese/moffa. Convention results will be online at convention.missouriffa.org. Missouri FFA President Justin Eddy, Columbia FFA Chapter member, along with the other 15 state officers will conduct convention sessions. Earlier in April, the 686 delegates- two from each chapter- held the business session via survey. The results will be announced during the convention’s first session at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Also during the first session, Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe will welcome members and guests, and Missouri Department of Agriculture Director Chris Chinn will share remarks. Chapter Activity Awards and leadership-development event results will be presented. LDEs and career-development events were held prior to convention.
