New three-track system aims to reel in a three-year backlog

Details of the fatal shooting of Jacob McClure of Jefferson by a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy in December might be made public sooner than normal under a new system the Maine Attorney General’s Office has put in place to manage a backlog of investigations.
In a statement provided to The Free Press, Attorney General Aaron Frey said he inherited the problem, which he blamed on a system of reviewing investigations in chronological order:
“Under this practice, when I took office in January 2019, the first case presented for my consideration involved an incident that occurred on June 7, 2017.” ....

BLM plans broadcast prescribed burn in Campbell County
BUFFALO, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Buffalo Field Office is planning a broadcast burn when conditions are safe on BLM and private lands in north central Campbell County. 
If conditions are safe, burning will occur before spring green-up. Depending on snow cover this winter, burning may begin as early as February but more likely will occur in March or April.  All prescribed burn projects are conducted in accordance with approved burn plans which specify weather, smoke dispersal, and fuel moisture conditions.
The area for the planned burn is in the Collins Road and Horse Creek Road area, BLM has completed thinning and slash burning in ponderosa pine forests, and conditions permitting, will follow with broadcast burning to reduce surface fuels such as needle litter and downed dead trees and limbs. ....

(Trenton) – A shooter may be on the loose this morning in Trenton following an incident last night that may have left at least two people wounded.  It happened on Birch Heights Drive off Oak Point Road sometime after 8-o’clock last night.   Neighbors posted on social media seeing numerous police cars and ambulances rushing to the scene, and other social media posts based mainly on police radio traffic indicated multiple injuries and that police were searching the area for the shooter.  The Hancock County Communications Center said the incident was ongoing early this morning but declined to provide further information. ....
