Event to help restore historic Grange Hall


AUBURN — The Jackson Center Hall, once home to elections, Grange Hall meetings, church activities, reunions and 4-H club get-togethers, again will serve the community south of Auburn.
The building that once stood at the southwest corner of C.R. 60 and C.R. 35 in Jackson Township was moved to a private property on C.R. 60 just east of the original site about 40 years ago. There it served as a storage building behind the former Mettert property.
Efforts to move and renovate the 120-year-old, wood-frame building began nearly 10 years ago when a new landowner was not interested having the building on the property, but the owner encouraged efforts to move it to a new location, according to DeKalb County Historian John Bry. ....

MINSTER – The Minster Village Council passed a resolution at its Tuesday, April 20, meeting objecting to the passage of a Ohio House of Representative bill that would require refunds of village income taxes for some employees.
House Bill 157 addresses the situation when some employees of Minster businesses worked from home during the pandemic in 2020. For those employees who lived outside of the village corporation limits, HB 157 would require the village to issues income tax refunds, going back to March 2020.
“The Ohio Municipal League asked that every municipality to write a letter to their representatives asking House Bill 157 not be passed,” said Village Administrator Don Harrod. He said the process of refunds would be a difficult task. ....

Council approves request for Food Truck Rally

MINSTER – A summer celebration, a renewal of tennis courts and discussion to renew a levy were all part of the discussions at the Minster Council meeting Tuesday night.
Council approved a request by the Minster Historical Society to close a portion of 4th Street by the museum for their third annual Food Truck Rally to be held on June 6 from 3 to 10 p.m.
Council agreed to a request for bids to redo the east tennis courts by the school. Village Administrator Don Harrod said the estimated cost of $100,00 will be shared equally by the school district. He added they had done the same work on the courts west of the school two years ago. ....
