Marshall's Salguero named to Rimington Watch List

HUNTINGTON â Marshall University center Alex Salguero was named to the national watch list for the Rimington Trophy on Friday.
The award honors the most outstanding center in the Football Bowl Subdivision. It is named for former University of Nebraska center Dave Rimington, who went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals. A first-team All-American in 1981 and 1982, Rimington became the John Outland Trophyâs only two-time winner as the nationâs finest college interior lineman.
Salguero, a 6-foot-4, 324-pound red-shirt senior from Bradenton, Florida, was the only nominee from Conference USA.
In 2020, Salguero stepped into a spot vacated by four-year starter Levi Brown and started all 10 games. He helped lead an offensive line that, heading into bowl season, was ranked fourth nationally by Pro Football Focus. A fifth-year player, Salgueroplayed in two games as a freshman, seven as a sophomore and 13 as a junior. ....

App's Hunter Named to Rimington Watch List

App State’s Baer Hunter has been named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top center.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound super senior is a two-time All-Sun Belt selection who moved to center in the spring after starting the last 31 games at right guard. Change isn’t new to him, though, considering he began his App State career as a defensive lineman and spent time at tight end before becoming a standout offensive lineman who has 38 total starts entering the 2021 season.
“The transition has been great,” Hunter said Thursday at Sun Belt Media Day in New Orleans. “You guys will be able to see all the hard work I’ve put in. The motivation behind it? I love my teammates, and I love Appalachian State.” ....
