The Marlborough District Council breached an agreement with the government by allowing telecommunication businesses to provide broadband off the back of its licence. But when the deadline came around in July last year, the council publicly announced it was ditching its plans to get into telecommunications and moving onto data collection. The council realised it would cost about $41 million to provide 99 per cent of its residents with decent broadband. ....

Tuesday, 3 August 2021, 4:11 pm Marlborough’s Mayoral Relief Fund to assist the region in its storm recovery effort is now open for applications. The fund is for residents in the Marlborough District Council area who have suffered personal financial or emotional hardship as a result of the July storm event. The grant amount will be up to $1,000; however the committee considering the applications has some discretion depending on evidence of hardship.
