Rockland A Cape Cod-style home that is one of the few remaining houses built by Civil War Major General Hiram Berry was leveled May 17. The house at 29 Broad St. in Rockland was demolished May 17. The city acquired the property in 2017 after the former owner abandoned the property and failed to pay sewer fees for several years. The city found the property in extremely poor shape. The city sold the property in July 2019 to JKS Property Management (John Schramm) for $10,002. The house was built in the mid-1800s and was one of several built by Hiram Berry who eventually became a Major General in the Civil War and died in the battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia in May 1863.
