We’ll take what we can get. This seems to be the general sentiment around the Biden administration’s response to COVID. We didn’t get $2,000 stimulus checks as originally promised, but we’ll take the $1,400. They didn’t raise the minimum wage to $15 during the midst of a devastating pandemic and recession, but the American Rescue Plan does include a child tax credit beginning in July. ....

Chris Stedman is a friend. He’s an activist, a community organizer, and a writer. MABL votes to repeal resolution enacted Monday | News, Sports, Jobs

LEWISTOWN During a brief special meeting Friday, the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown Board of Directors voted to repeal a resolution enacted at Monday’s special meeting that sought to have Lewistown Borough take over the authority’s debt for the purpose of refinancing.
The board’s discussion centered around the need to have funding available for MABL’s capital improvement projects. Under the resolution, it seemed as though MABL would have been forced to seek approval from Lewistown Borough for any expenditures.
Engineer Pat Ward said there was some “miscommunication with what was going on” at Monday’s meeting. ....

'Save the lemonade stands' bill to protect child entrepreneurship


The legislation would exempt some child-run businesses from municipal regulation and licensing.

HARRISBURG, Pa. A state lawmaker has introduced a bill to save the lemonade stands. He said it will help children keep their entrepreneurial spirit. 
In certain cases, there are municipalities that get a little bit power hungry and really like to offer our kids lemons and we re trying to make lemonade out of those lemons, State Rep. John Hershey, a Republican representing Juniata, Franklin, and Mifflin counties said.
In recent years, some townships and municipalities have been cracking down on kids operating lemonade stands, cutting grass, and shoveling without a license.  ....
