Science Hill student learns of perfect ACT score over the summer

Science Hill’s Yeleeya Li found the perfect way to kick off her senior year.
Li joined the less than half-percent of all ACT test-takers by earning a 36, a perfect score for the national standardized test for college admissions in the U.S.
Li said she was pleasantly surprised when she found out about the perfect score and immediately snapped a picture of the letter to send to her parents.
“I thought that ACT went relatively well, but I was definitely not expecting a 36,” Li said.
Li, the daughter of Zhiwu Li and Ying Liu, said she has enjoyed her time at Science Hill High School and has been involved in Future Business Leaders of America since freshman year. Last school year, Li placed first at the FBLA state competition for advertising. She also enjoys her free time by volunteering at Johnson City Medical Center.

July 25, 1852: The New Orleans Weekly Delta reported, “The Jonesborough (Tenn.) Rail Road Journal relates the following as a specimen of the way they do things in Tennessee. ‘S. D. Adams has written a letter to Col. Roper, of Dandridge, Tennessee, notifying him that he will shortly publish his life, which will be illustrated with woodcuts, and will disgrace him and his children to the tenth generation.’ Col. Roper, in reply, says he will prove his calumnies to be false in every material part, and his reputation to be that of a common street liar, and further, that if he shall come in contact with him, he ‘will cowhide him in a manner commensurate with the spirit of his age. Cowhiding in accordance with the age is good!’”

July 23, 1874: The Herald and Tribune extended a sad invitation: “The funeral services of Mrs. McNeal will be conducted by Rev. J.L. Mann at Johnson City, August 9th. The friends of deceased are invited to be present.”
The Herald and Tribune was, and still is, a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was also spelled as Jonesboro within the pages of the newspaper.
July 23, 1891: The Comet quipped, “A party of young men went out picnicking yesterday in the direction of Buffalo mountain (sic). It was their purpose to spend the day on the mountain, and they did.”
July 23, 1896: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, according to The Comet, “The concert at Jobe’s Opera House last Tuesday evening, given by the young people of Jonesboro, was a grand treat to the music-loving people of Johnson City. The company was composed of the very best talent of Jonesboro, and each member deserves to class higher than the average amateur. They were repeatedly called back, and responded cheerfully to each encore. The opera house was filled with a most appreciative audience.”

July 21, 1887: The Comet carried several interesting news accounts of various activities in Johnson City. “The new wash room at the Piedmont House is a model of neatness and is a marked improvement. Two new marble basins have been received and the water is supplied by the water works, it looks real citified.”
“The game of base ball (sic) between the Esters’ and the Highlanders last Saturday resulted in a victory for the home team by a score of 30 to 34. The game was played in four hours and thirty minutes.”
“The register at the Piedmont House shows that 618 persons have been accommodated at that hotel in the first 18 days of July. This list does not include about 50 that took supper there Saturday night and did not register. This is a remarkable showing and serves to show that a larger number of people pass through Johnson City than even the citizens have any idea of. This is only one hotel – the Hoss House has also had a good run – but we do not believe there is any two hotels in East Tennessee that can touch this record.”
