ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. A line full of cars stretched all the way to the highway at the St. Johns County Health Department Thursday as many waited to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I got a full tank of gas, radio, and water I’m okay, said Gwen Bertles.
People in the line say the average wait time was about three hours.
“It’s a nice day, what can you lose maybe we’ll get vaccinated today so here we are,” said Tony Serio. ....

The St. Johns County Health Department said those who qualify can come with no appointment but with lines stretching for miles, there will be a long wait.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. People who qualify to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in St. Johns County can do so without an appointment, the St. Johns County Health Department said Friday.
A spokesperson for the health department told First Coast News its phone lines got overloaded, so now people 65 and older can just show up to get the vaccine. The staff will be there until 3 p.m., and anyone who is still in line at that time will receive a voucher to return. ....

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The race to get a COVID-19 vaccine is causing a stir in St. Johns County.
On Thursday, a long line of cars was backed up near the St. Johns County Health Department as many waited for hours to get the vaccine.
After the issues, the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners sent a letter to department director Dr. Dawn Allicock following multiple meetings.
“Since the Department of Health began their vaccine program earlier this week, the Board of County Commissioners has been inundated with questions, concerns, and complaints regarding a lack of public information and program management,” the letter, obtained by News4Jax, reads in part. “As such, St. Johns County is once again requesting that the Department of Health in St. Johns County strongly reconsider and accept our offer of partnership.” ....

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – People who fit the criteria to get one of the COVID-19 vaccines in St. Johns County lined up in their cars beginning at 4:30 a.m. Friday, hoping to get a shot before the Health Department office closed on New Year’s Day.
Health workers opened the line at 9 a.m. to vaccinate health care workers and those 65 years and older.
The day’s allocation of 340 shots was gone in 2½ hours. Another 383 vaccines were administered at the St. Johns County Fire-Rescue site. The health office was supposed to be open until 3 p.m. Friday, but deputies began turning people away around 11:30 a.m. ....
