A Georgia judge is facing ethics charges filed on Friday for allegedly assaulting a shackled inmate who he says cursed at him, and could be removed from his position.
Charges against the judge, Chief Magistrate Cary Hays III, who was sworn into office in January 2017, were filed last week by the investigative panel of the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission. The official charges claim that after Hays presided over the unnamed victim s first appearance hearing on December 18, he followed the inmate, who was shackled both at the hands and feet, into the hall. The court suspended the judge, Christian Coomer, on Wednesday, Law360 reports.
Coomer is accused of making himself a beneficiary and his wife the executor when drafting wills for a then-client, according to Law.com, Law360 and the Daily Tribune News.
Coomer is also accused of drafting an irrevocable living trust for the client that designated Coomer as the trustee and beneficiary, with the power to transfer funds to himself while the client was still alive, according to the Dec. 28 charges by the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission. ....

Forsyth County Judge agrees to not seek future office after JQC investigation
A Forsyth County judge whose term will end at the end of the year has agreed to not seek any other judicial appointments after being investigated by a panel with the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Committee.
On Dec. 11, a report by an investigative panel with the JQC was filed with the Georgia Supreme Court regarding “a complaint concerning allegations of judicial misconduct on the part of Forsyth County Probate Judge Lynwood Jordan” and whether he violated rules of the code of judicial conduct or “engaged in behavior toward employees that constituted harassment based up gender and/or sex.” ....
