New York Police Department officials are bracing for reaction to the Derek Chauvin verdict.
They are preparing to switch officers to 12-hour shifts as necessary, according to a source familiar with ongoing discussions about preparations. ​
The source, who requested anonymity due to the still developing plans, said unscheduled days off have been suspended so to satisfy personnel needed to sustain any potential protests in the wake of the verdict.
The NYPD said in a statement that it has prepared for this “for many months” and have provided necessary training for police officers in protecting and facilitating what the department described the constitutional right to peaceful protest. ....
