News 25's 25 Teams in 25 Days: George County Rebels

WXXV News 25
July 28, 2021
The last time Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College played football games on what’s now the band practice field, the Bulldogs won their 1948 national championship.
Seventy-three years later, that’s where we find George County High School, putting in work as a part of its annual team camp. A home away from home at stop number five on News 25’s 25 Teams in 25 Days.
“We’re friends in the locker room and all that, but on the field, you’re my enemy.”
Running back Trent Howell said, “We come out here and get after it for about an hour and a half, hate each other on the field pretty much, and then we go back in the dorms and we’re best friends again, playing X-Box and just joking around.”

2022 wide receiver Ashton Hollins verbally committed to Illinois on Wednesday afternoon.
Hollins, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound converted quarterback from George County High School in Lucedale, Miss., pledged to the Illini after an official visit to Champaign this weekend. Receivers coach George McDonald caught wind of Hollins at a camp this month and quickly swooped in to bring Hollins to campus.
Check out some highlights below:
Hollins is currently unranked by 247Sports, but has a good frame, length, athleticism, and projectability. He’s unlikely to see the field early on with the likes of Donny Navarro, Brian Hightower, Marquez Beason, Isaiah Williams & Carlos Sandy ahead of him.

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - The Pearl River football staff was elated to announce their 2021 signing class Wednesday afternoon. The class represents the first group head coach Seth Smith and his staff have been able to recruit for a calendar year. While the COVID-19 pandemic complicated the way teams can recruit, Smith is confident the class will shine over the next two years for the Wildcats.
“We are extremely excited about our first full signing class,” Smith said. “We’ve had over nine months to evaluate these guys and also evaluate our needs for the 2021 team moving forward. We feel like we are bringing in an extremely talented group that will help us address those needs. These young men will have an immediate impact in helping us continue to elevate our program back to a championship standard.

Complementarianism and Epstein

By Sean Palmer
“Are you going to make people call you Doctor?” my 5th grade voice squeaked out as my dad wrapped up his Master’s and began to work on his Ed.D.
At the time, Dad was the Vice-Principal at George County High School in Lucedale, MS, a forgettable place which I wish I could forget even more about. Dad’s boss, the Superintendent of George County schools was, well, I forget her name. Heck, I was in 5th grade and, like I said, Lucedale is a forgettable town.
While I don’t recall her name, I do recall her title, Doctor. And, just as palpable in my memory is that folks around Lucedale seemed to choke a little on the word “Doctor.”
