SOUTHBURY â Allan Tarbox was born on November 26, 1945, in Waterbury, and was a lifelong resident of Southbury. His golfing buddies would laugh when he called himself a native. He passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021.
As a young man, he worked for the Hawkins Company in South Britain. On his days off he loved to help his friends soup up their carsâ motors. At the age of 13, he took his fatherâs new lawn mowerâs motor and made a go-kart out of it.
He would race down Flood Bridge Road, much to Bill Plattsâ cowsâ dismay. He moved on to work as a drafting engineer for Pratt and Whitney in Stratford, leaving to work at the Woodbury Telephone Company.

The wildfire situation in Saskatchewan continues to grow.
That according to Vice-President of Operations for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, Steve Roberts, who says as of Monday morning there were 91 active fires in the province, and 312 fires already this year. “Based on this fire behaviour and the fire loading, the provincial fire ban will remain in place and will be reviewed shortly.” Roberts says the only precipitation seen recently is in the far north of the province, which has brought some reprieve to northern fires, but the lower two thirds of the province continues to see hot, dry weather with very little precipitation.
