Pride Festival returns with primarily virtual delivery – Jasper's source for news, sports, arts, culture, and more

The Jasper Pride Festival adapted to the COVID-era this year by offering more private versions of activities and streaming LGBTQ+ entertainment virtually.
Presented by TD Bank Group, the festival ran from April 22 to 25.
“All in all, considering the rapidly changing climate that we had the festival put on in, it was definitely a success for us,” said Nick Stadnyk, chair for the Jasper Pride Festival Society.
“In comparison to the one event that we had last year, this year was a lot more fleshed out and it was just a lot more realized.”
The festival officially kicked off with the society’s board and delegates raising the Pride Flag, which spectators watched virtually. ....

Lynn Wannop, who owns Coco’s Café with her husband Andrew, has endeavoured to not just serve coffee but also serve her community through volunteering.
Born in 1976 to Barb and Mel Parcels, Wannop originally heralds from Edmonton, specifically south of downtown along Whyte Avenue.
“Whyte Avenue is very different now, but when I was growing up, Whyte Avenue was a very, very heart-of-the-arts scene, very alternative, early ’90s, kind of when I came into my own and worked at all the cafés and nightclubs,” Wannop said. ....

The library is closed to the public. Staff are available Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reach us at 780-852-3652 or jasperlibrary@town.jasper.ab.ca. No contact pickups and e-resources are available. The book drop is open. Items go into isolation for a week before checking in. Free library memberships can be done by phone.
