Jiu-Jitsu's biggest global event returns for its 12th edition in the UAE capital


DUBAI: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the governing authority for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE, has announced that the 12th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC), the largest and most prestigious event on the global jiu-jitsu calendar, will be held from April 6-9 at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in the UAE capital.
This year’s edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC) will be held under the current coronavirus restrictions. The UAEJJF was among the first sporting bodies in the region to pioneer a return to live competitive sport and has successfully organized a string of training camps and competitions featuring domestic and international fighters. ....

UAE's jiu-jitsu elite face off against the world's best fighters


DUBAI: The UAE’s best fighters will have the opportunity to face off against leading international opponents in different divisions at the Abu Dhabi International Pro, a key stop on the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Tour on March 12-13 at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena, with over 500 fighters from 30 countries having confirmed their participation in the tournament.
Action will begin on March 12 when blue belt holders compete, while purple, brown, and black belt holders will take to the mats on Saturday.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) has confirmed that 123 fighters from the UAE across belts will be in action during the two-day tournament. Brazil and Colombia, traditional jiu-jitsu powerhouses, will also have strong representation with 87 and 34 fighters respectively, with 600 ranking points available to winners in each class, attaching even greater importance to the tournament. ....

Magalhaes is a top-level black-belt competitor in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. In 2020 he ranked number one in the world in his age group (he’s 34) in both gi, where competitors wear karate-like robes, and no-gi, where they don’t.
That’s the first time anyone has accomplished that feat, said Billy Mitchell of Ludus Martial Arts & Personal Training in Jacksonville Beach, which sponsored him in that quest.
Magalhaes, who is Brazilian, became a coach at the gym after moving to Jacksonville last year with his wife. She s a helicopter pilot at Naval Station  Mayport whom he met when she traveled to Brazil and was looking for a martial-arts gym.  ....

DANVILLE, CA A Danville man and professional mixed martial artist was sentenced to spend six months in jail Friday after attacking and knocking the front teeth out of a five-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champ two years ago.
Ralph Gracie, 49, was also ordered to participate in an anger management program and was placed on three years of formal probation.
He accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Andre Manssourian. The defendant pleaded guilty to a felony count of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury. ....

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 49-year-old mixed-martial arts fighter was sentenced today to six months in jail for assaulting another MMA competitor at a gathering at the Anaheim Convention Center two years ago.
Ralph Gracie of Danville was also ordered to take part in an anger management program and was placed on three years of formal probation.
Gracie accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Andre Manssourian, in which the defendant pleaded guilty to a felony count of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury. ....
