The news of Texas Longhorns linebacker Jake Ehlinger’s death continues to echo across the college football landscape. Ehlinger’s former high school head coach, Westlake High School head coach Todd Dodge, sent out his own message over the weekend. Below:

Former Los Angeles Rams running back and ex-Texas Longhorns great Jim Bertelsen has died at age 71, the university announced Friday.
The school revealed the news in a Twitter post that honored the two-time national champion who still ranks among the top 10 in rushing touchdowns in Longhorns history.
No details were given regarding the cause of death.
Originally from Saint Paul, Minn., Bertlesen attended Hudson High School in Wisconsin before enrolling at Texas, where he became a star ballcarrier.
In his college career, Bertelsen accumulated 2,510 rushing yards and averaged 6.1 yards per carry while earning All-Southwest Conference honors two times. He helped carry Texas to national titles in 1969 (consensus) and 1970 (UPI) in the Longhorns vaunted wishbone offense under head coach Darrell Royal. ....

Former Rams running back Jim Bertelsen passed away at the age of 71 this week.
Bertelsen spent five years in the NFL, all with the Rams. He was a second-round pick in 1972, going 30th overall to Los Angeles. His best season came in 1973 when he rushed for 854 yards and four touchdowns, while also catching 19 passes for 267 yards and one touchdown. He earned a Pro Bowl selection, the only of his career.
In his five seasons in L.A., Bertelsen carried the ball 614 times for 2,466 yards and scored 16 touchdowns on the ground. He also appeared in five playoff games, rushing for 136 yards on 32 carries. ....
