With a loss of about $150,000 projected for the year, Flagler Schools may need additional programing to make the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club viable or close it to nonstudents.
“It’s not sustainable,” said Marta Barber, BTSRC coordinator. She proposed four options: 1) Sell the property. 2) Lease it to another company that could try to make a profit. 3) Close the property to the community but keep using it for school purposes only. Or, 4) keep the facilities open, but increase the fee structure for the community. ....

The Flagler County School Board is considering selling the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club it’s owned since 1997, or closing its membership-driven club functions and restricting its use to students, whose high school teams depend on its 25-meter pool.
Those were among four options district staff presented to the school board in a workshop on Tuesday in the latest tortured discussion over what to do with a facility that has been losing money and requiring the district’s general fund to make up the difference. That’s unacceptable to some board members, who say–accurately–that general fund dollars are intended for instruction, not club subsidies. ....

Flagler Schools Will Keep Mask Rules In Effect, Making them Voluntary in Summer

Students in Flagler County schools will be required to continue with masking, as a safety precaution, until the end of the school year. Once summer programs start, masks will be optional. (Flagler Schools)
The Flagler County school district today reiterated that its masking requirement in all schools will stay in place until the end of the regular school year. The requirement will be lifted at the beginning of summer school, when masking will become voluntary. Masking will remain voluntary when the next school year begins in August, unless the district experiences significant spikes in infections, in which case masking requirements may be reinstituted. ....
