As the Orlando Solar Bears announced yesterday, their goaltender Garret Sparks signed a professional tryout with the Calgary Flames and is heading to their training camp. Sparks previously signed an ECHL Standard Player Contract for the 2020-21 season before the start of the new season in December and played just one game for the Solar Bears, recording an overtime win against the Wheeling Nailers on December 19.

IIHF cancels 6 exhibition games in 2021 World Juniors Championship

Prior to arriving in Edmonton, Alberta, the 10 teams competing in the 2021 IIHF World Juniors Championship were under quarantine, to limit potential spread of COVID-19 while traveling internationally. Teams were then subject to additional quarantine time once arriving in Edmonton.
During this period, eight members of Team Germany and two staff members for Team Sweden have tested positive for the virus. Both teams have been under extended quarantine, forcing the IIHF to amend the pre-tournament schedule originally set to begin tomorrow, Sunday Dec. 20 to remove Germany and Sweden from the schedule.
All games on Sunday and Monday have been cancelled. The exhibition play has been shortened from 10 games to just four, to be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and Wednesday, Dec. 23. 4 San Jose Sharks prospects named to 2021 World Juniors rosters

San Jose Sharks fans missed out on seeing 2020 draft pick Thomas Bordeleau compete at the 2021 IIHF World Juniors Championship thanks to COVID-19 precautions, but the club will still be represented at the tournament, which begins exhibition games on Sunday. Four prospects in the Sharks’ system have been named to their home country’s national team to compete at the top men’s juniors level.
The group includes two forwards and two defenders on three different teams. Two are returning from the 2020 World Juniors Championship, while two are making their debut, either entirely or at the Under-20 level. Team Russia is the only team to include multiple Sharks prospects. ....

Ducks prospect Albin Sundsvik named to Team Sweden 2021 WJC roster

The Anaheim Ducks are tied for third-most prospects heading into the 2021 IIHF World Juniors Championship, with six total prospects across three teams. The team has the biggest presence on Team USA, where four players Jackson LaCombe, Henry Thrun, Sam Colangelo and Trevor Zegras will represent. Top defensive prospect Jamie Drysdale will suit up for Team Canada.
Center Albin Sundsvik, drafted in the sixth round (160 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, will also play in the top men’s juniors tournament later this month. He is the latest-drafted Ducks prospect to play in this year’s tournament. ....
