BGSU professor finds changing common aircraft maintenance practice could save lives Dr. Hokey Min says extracting necessary parts from existing aircraft for repairs reduces maintenance efficiency By Julie Carle Aircraft maintenance errors have been among the causes of plane crashes about 20% of the time, according to recent Federal Aviation Administration statistics. A Bowling Green State University management professor helped analyze more than three years of U.S. Air Force data and found that a specific practice might be one of the main issues. Dr. Hokey Min, the James R. Good Chair in Global Supply Chain Strategy in the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business, said the practice of extracting necessary parts from existing aircraft and using them for repairs in other planes was found to reduce maintenance efficiency. ....
BGSU offers new Master of Design in Integrative Design degree in Fall 2021 Program prepares designers to be collaborative, strategic and social innovators By Julie Carle Bowling Green State University’s graphic design program is creating the next generation of designers to be collaborative, strategic thinkers and social innovators. The new Master of Design (MDes) in Integrative Design degree at BGSU teaches creative, strategic and collaborative skillsets that prepare designers to think bigger. The inaugural program starts in Fall 2021. “Design is no longer solely a brochure or a logo,” said Jenn Stucker, chair of BGSU’s graphic design division in the BGSU School of Art. “We think about design in a bigger context and not just an object.” ....
Class of 2020 Success Stories: BGSU experience is music to Gretchen Hill s ears By Julie Carle When Gretchen Hill chose to attend Bowling Green State University on a recommendation by her clarinet teacher, she couldn’t fathom the experiences she would encounter. During her four and a half years at BGSU, she traveled abroad; attended a monthlong chamber music festival; connected with musicians, educators and alumni; commissioned a musical composition for her instrument-of-choice, clarinet; and developed lifelong friendships. The December 2020 College of Musical Arts graduate from Swartz Creek, Michigan, came to campus to study music performance and music education. BGSU experience leads political science graduate on path to law school By Julie Carle Camden Sondergeld came to Bowling Green State University to learn. Through two different majors and many academically brilliant faculty members, the December 2020 graduate is prepared for his next journey as a law student. He started at BGSU in the College Credit Plus program when he was a senior at Gibsonburg (Ohio) High School. From an early age, music was his cornerstone, which played into his decision to study jazz guitar at the University. He discovered that the jazz studies program, which was “in my backyard,” was nationally ranked in the top 25, the education was affordable, and he was familiar with BGSU because his older siblings Holden and Soren were both Falcon alumni. ....
