Henderson County News: Boys & Girls Club names Youth of the Year

Marcella Daniel, an 11-year member of the club, competed against four other talented teens in a virtual competition on MLK Day.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of the Year program celebrates the nation’s most awe- inspiring young people, recognizing excellence in leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Four other club teens participated in the 2021 local competition as well. Clara Hockenberry, Ali Garcia, Ivan Acosta and Cierra Burns joined Daniel in submitting portfolios to a panel of judges that detailed community service, academic standing and multiple essays. Each teen was extensively interviewed and delivered speeches describing the club’s impact on their lives. ....

Boys and Girls Club pauses operations due to COVID-19 spread inHenderson County

An increase in local COVID-19 cases has prompted the Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County to suspend operations until next month.
Effective Dec. 21, the club will be closed to members and is scheduled to reopen in-person programs on Thursday, Jan. 7 in tandem with the reopening of Henderson County Public Schools.
Ongoing operations remain contingent on community health and based on the direction of health officials, the organization stated in a news release.
“We’re doing everything possible to keep our club members and staff protected from the COVID-19 virus, particularly as community spread becomes more prevalent,” said Nicola Barksdale, president of the Club’s board of directors. ....

Henderson County News: Boys & Girls Club closes until Jan. 7 - Hendersonville Lightning

Effective Monday, the club will be closed to members and is scheduled to reopen in-person programs on Thursday, Jan. 7, in tandem with the scheduled reopening of Henderson County public schools. As always, ongoing operations remain contingent on community health and based on the direction of health officials.
“We’re doing everything possible to keep our Club members and staff protected from the Covid-19 virus, particularly as community spread becomes more prevalent,” said Nicola Barksdale, president of the Club’s board of directors. “We’ve been working closely with local public health officials and taking all recommended precautionary measures, and we feel this is the safest choice at this time, given present circumstances,” Barksdale said. ....
