Blotter: Jefferson County police activity for Wednesday, May 26


WATERTOWN — Kayla K. Williams, 32, 8700 Main St., Apt. 210A, Fort Drum, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday with DWI and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At about 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, Ms. Williams was stopped by a deputy on Vaadi Road in the town of Orleans. There was allegedly a loaded .40-caliber handgun inside her vehicle, and she was also allegedly intoxicated.
She was later arrested and taken to jail on $2,500 bail.
Micah K. Houppert, 29, 513 Hamilton St., Upper, was charged by city police Tuesday with second-degree criminal contempt after he allegedly violated a stay-away order of protection.
Mr. Houppert allegedly violated the order on May 19. The order was issued out of Jefferson County Family Court and ruled that he was to stay away from a residence on Hamlin Street. ....

Children's Home of Jefferson County announces children will no longer be housed on campus by end of June | Jefferson County


WATERTOWN — In an announcement Wednesday, the Children’s Home of Jefferson County shared plans for future programming, as well as the discontinuation of on-campus housing, effective June 30.
According to CHJC, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic allowed the agency to help youths remain in their homes. With court closures, youths learning remotely and services being provided virtually, there was a significantly reduced need for residential care. State trends of youths placed at the residential level of care also significantly decreased, allowing CHJC to identify alternative treatment options.
At the same time, the pandemic resulted in new operational practices at all levels. The transition with new programming is set to launch sometime during the fall, according to a news release from CHJC. When possible, affected staff will be transferred to other program positions or encouraged to reapply as new programs are launched. ....
