JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas On Monday, Democrats in the Texas Legislature left the state to revolt against and block a vote on voting legislation.
The bills being considered would create new identification requirements for people voting by mail and block local election officials from sending vote-by-mail applications to those who have not requested one.
The bills would also restrict polling hours, ban drive-thru voting and extend hours during early voting.
Some Southeast Texas voters said regardless of whether the voting law is enacted or not, their voices will be heard. ....

Ohio s rolling seven-day average for newly reported coronavirus cases this week has been lower than at any point since early October.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -Gov. Mike DeWine announced in a special address Wednesday evening that all pandemic health orders - except those for nursing homes and assisted living facilities - will be lifted in three weeks, on June 2.
DeWine’s decision nullifies his previous benchmark for dropping public health orders when cases decline to 50 per 100,000 residents which he made in his last public address, on March 4. On Thursday, the rate will be around 122.9 cases per 100,000 people, which DeWine noted shows a decreasing trend. ....

No Excuse Absentee Voting Period May Be Coming To Missouri

/
Missouri could implement a three-week period when a voter could cast an absentee ballot in person for any reason.
Lawmakers could be chipping away at Missouri’s excuse-based absentee ballot system by creating a three-week period in which voters can cast their ballots early in person.
But even though that proposal appears to have momentum, some election officials believe that the idea is still too restrictive and largely keeps in place an ineffective excuse-based system that scares voters from casting absentee ballots.
In order to cast an absentee ballot in Missouri, a voter has to check off a specific excuse such as being out of town on Election Day or being physically incapacitated. Lawmakers expanded the parameters because of the coronavirus, but those changes expired at the end of the year. ....
