Business picks up at Jefferson County Airpark | News, Sports, Jobs

WINTERSVILLE March was a record month for the Geary A. Bates Jefferson County Airpark. Airpark manager Brian Thaxton told the Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority board during Monday’s meeting that the airpark handled 560 operations during the month, which was higher than anticipated for this early in the year, and sold some 8,245 gallons of jet fuel.
That total, he said, was a record for the facility.
“March was a pretty big month for us,” Thaxton said, citing improved weather conditions.
Later in the meeting, the board voted to give Thaxton a 4 percent pay raise. That vote will send a recommendation to the Jefferson County commissioners, who oversee the employment of airpark staff, for consideration. ....

TALKING INTERNET â Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission executive director Mike Paprocki appeared before the Jefferson County commissioners at Thursdayâs meeting to discuss the steps the county needs to take to improve access to high speed internet. WINTERSVILLE The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority board met Monday, approving a letter drafted by board president Brandon Reese to be sent to the Jefferson County commissioners.
The letter detailed the airport authority’s position on a potential move of Wintersville County Court into the former Cross Creek Township building at 251 Airpark Drive.
The letter said the court would be “a suitable addition to the county government complex” in addition to the Jefferson County 9-1-1 office and animal shelter.
The renovations needed to accommodate the court and make it “similar to Toronto County Court” would cost an estimated $200,000, the letter said. ....

Airport authority looking into cost of court move | News, Sports, Jobs

WINTERSVILLE The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority is looking into possible renovations at the building located at 251 Airport Drive that could accommodate Wintersville county court.
According to minutes provided by the airport authority from its Feb. 8 meeting, the topic was raised by board President Brandon Reese, who told members he had a discussion with Judge Michael C. Bednar regarding the potential relocation of the court from its present location at 30 Talbott Drive.
The minutes noted the renovations needed before the court could move into the space could possibly cost as much as $200,000.
The board then discussed whether or not it was feasible to spend that much money to renovate the building to house the court, the minutes said. ....

Commercial licenses extended
CHARLESTON The West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has announced the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the expirations on some commercial driver’s licenses and commercial learner’s permits because of the pandemic.
CDLs and CLPS that expired on or after March 1, 2020, have been extended to May 31.
The 14-day period for CLP holders to take the skills test has been waived until May 31 while medical examiner’s certificates and medical downgrades that expired on or after Dec. 1 have been extended to that date as well. ....
