Editorial — Give it the green light: Hounsfield sewer line would enhance JCIDA business park


Completing a capital improvement project would enhance an already promising enterprise underway in one section of Jefferson County.
The town of Hounsfield proposed constructing a $6 million sewer line from Dexter to the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency’s planned Airport Business Park along Route 12F. Convalt Energy, a renewable energy firm, and DigiCollect, a software company, reached a preliminary agreement with the JCIDA earlier this year to open facilities at the site.
These New York City companies are subsidiaries of ACO Investment Group. They plan to bring more than 2,000 jobs to Jefferson County with their operations. This is one of the largest manufacturing projects that Northern New York has seen in decades. ....

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Lewis County agency was tasked with a tall order: find a solution to the area’s childcare shortage. The group has dreamed up a plan, but it knows a plan is only as good as the team you assemble.
In February, Lewis County Economic Development Executive Director Brittany Davis and her team were given a mountain of a job.
“Our county manager actually tasked us with coming up with childcare solutions in the county,” she said. ....

LOWVILLE — You have children. You have to work. The limited child care options you can find all have waiting lists or are too expensive. Then, there’s the issue of safety for your children in whatever care scenario you can find.
School shutdowns and home schooling made the dearth of child care in Lewis County impossible to ignore for some, but many family members helped to dull the impact.
Now that more and more people are going back to their jobs, child care challenges loom larger than ever.
Lewis County Economic Development and the county Planning Department are trying to do something about it. Jefferson County Economic Development on Thursday morning approved its involvement in the project by authorizing $45,460 to pay for its share in the program. ....
