Drug raid results in new charges
STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Drug Task Force raided the home of a woman already in custody on drug charges Tuesday, seizing a large quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamine.
Task Force Capt. John Lemal said they removed about 56 grams of suspected methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia, including packaging material, from the home of Khloe L. Dibiase, 128 Shirley Circle.
Dibiase, 27, was already being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $100,000 bond after being taken into custody by Steubenville police Feb. 7 on three felony counts of drug possession. ....

STEUBENVILLE A dispute over a road use maintenance agreement between the Jefferson County Engineer’s Office and Ascent Resources came before the Jefferson County Commissioners Thursday morning and was not resolved.
The commissioners heard from representatives from both parties through a Zoom teleconference that lasted roughly 30 minutes and at times got testy, ending abruptly due to an Internet connection issue.
Ascent is working at two sites in Wells Township located off of township Road 156 that share a driveway. ....

Man arrested for possession with intent near Lake Mills Elementary


A former Lake Mills man was arrested on multiple drug related crimes last week, including possession with intent near a school. Police arrested John C. Brown, 30, on a domestic abuse charge, while he was being surveilled by the Jefferson County Drug Task Force.
Brown is charged with five felony counts including possession with intent to sell amphetamine, greater than 50 grams, near a school; possession with intent THC less than 200 grams, near a school; maintaining a drug trafficking place, near a school; possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In a separate case Brown is charged with disorderly conduct and domestic abuse. ....

STEUBENVILLE Seventy-one small businesses and nonprofits received grants for COVID-related expenses or losses through Jefferson County’s Emergency Relief Grant Program, commissioners reported Thursday.
“This was our best vehicle to (help them),” Commissioner Dave Maple said. “We’re not a granting authority, we don’t often have the opportunity to (pump) money back into the community like that.”
Commissioners had decided in November to set aside $1 million from the county’s CARES Act fund allotment to assist beleaguered businesses and civic groups throughout the county. To be funded, applicants had to meet specific eligibility requirements and demonstrate either lost revenues or extra expenses they incurred in serving the community. Aroun ....
