SOUTH KINGSTOWN â In an effort to build stronger community relations, the South Kingstown Police Department will be hosting a series of events to hopefully build-up positive ties with residents.Â
On Saturday, South Kingstown Police Chief Joel Ewing-Chow and a handful of passionate officers were busy handing out juice boxes and providing sidewalk chalk at Old Mountain Field to the communityâs youngest residents.Â
Operation Juice Box is just the kick-off event in a series of events already on the calendar for this summer.Â
âThe biggest thing we need to do is go out and meet with the community at things like this, that are non-law enforcement types of duties,â Ewing-Chow said. âWhat Iâm concerned about is every time someone sees a police officer, people tend to think, âWhat happened? Whatâs wrong? Something bad must be happening.ââ
2 Fort Worth Zoo hyenas on temporary exhibit at Abilene Zoo
Staff report
Two Fort Worth Zoo striped hyenas have found a temporary home at the Abilene Zoo.
Because of its accreditation with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, the Abilene Zoo is able to participate with other facilities in loaning animals for breeding, temporary housing and other projects, spokeswoman Jennifer Pacheco said.
The male hyena Felix and the female Farrah, both 11, will remain at the Abilene facility for about two years until the Fort Worth Zoo project is completed in spring 2023, according to an Abilene Zoo news release.
Hyenas, which are part of the feline animal family and not canine, have not been on exhibit at the Abilene Zoo since 2009, officials said.
