DARIEN Changes in local zoning regulations will offer more flexibility to developers while potentially increasing affordable housing stock, town officials said.
The Planning and Zoning Commission amended three regulations eliminating the minimum apartment size; amending inclusionary zoning rules to allow for a higher percentage of affordable housing units in certain developments; and lessening some multi-family housing parking requirements.
The moves came as the Desegregate CT group pushed for legislation to make construction of affordable housing easier statewide. Several legislative changes were approved and signed into law by Gov. Ned Lamont earlier this summer. ....

DARIEN Citing a weakened office rental market and the proximity to open space, the owner of a 3 Parklands Drive in Darien is seeking to change the building’s use from commercial to residential.
But a petition objecting to the proposal has gained 200 signatures and several members of the public have sent in comment against the project.
Parklands Darien LLC, the owner of the building, proposes to redevelop it into a three-story residential building with 59 units. The property is shared with the Residence at Selleck’s Woods, an assisted living community. ....

DARIEN The longtime Noroton Heights redevelopment project that has been on hold is expected to see a light at the end of the tunnel soon, according to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson.
Stevenson gave an update on that and other redevelopment projects, along with the status of many other town Darien-related topics at a recent State of the Town discussion coordinated by the Darien Chamber of Commerce. She said the project should resume work within the next six months. ....

DARIEN Amid news that an elderly Darien resident died of COVID-19 last weekend, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson announced the formation of a town vaccine committee at Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting,
The elderly resident died on Dec. 12, bringing the total deaths due to the pandemic in Darien to six. There have been 21 hospitalizations and 539 cases from 390 households. Currently, Town Hall has five confirmed cases, with two presumed cases and five in quarantine. ....
