The raging controversy over safe school reopenings got more heated when state and federal leaders said getting all teachers vaccinated is not a prerequisite for opening schools so long as there are mitigating, safety measures in place.
“I want nothing more than to be with my students again,” said Jessi Mortensen who teaches high school in the San Dieguito Union School District. But I don t think we should do that at the sacrifice of anyone becoming ill when it’s avoidable.

Teachers, some parents in San Dieguito Union High School District concerned about return to in-person classes

ENCINITAS, Calif. Teachers and parents in the San Dieguito Union High School District are speaking out against plans to welcome all students back onto campuses in a hybrid model starting January 4, 2021.
Right now, only a very small percentage of the district s neediest students have been allowed inside classrooms. On January 4, all of the district s 13,000 students will have the option to come back at least one day a week.
It s a plan some are calling rushed and unsafe.
It just doesn t make sense and isn t worth the risk, said Adam Fischer. ....
