Fairfield Oaks residents seek assistance after South Highlands fire

Displaced residents are seeking answers and support after a devastating fire in South Highlands.
On Wednesday, April 21, a two-alarm fire ripped through a residential building of the Fairfield Oaks A Condominiums, located on the 3800 block of Fairfield Avenue in Shreveport.
“We were all shocked and reeling from what happened,” said Lynne Most, a Fairfield Oaks HOA board member. Our gut response was compassion for these people who have lost their homes.
On Sunday, April 25, HOA board members hosted a special meeting in the Fairfield Oaks courtyard to provide the latest updates and give residents an opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns. The meeting was full of mixed emotions as the community is grateful that no injuries or death occurred due to the blaze but frustrated as they don t know when they can return to their units if able to at all. ....

Mississippi Humanities Council to honor ICC's Ward, Stevenson

Itawamba Community Collegeâs Nathan Ward of Mooreville and Jessi Stevenson of Fulton will be among statewide recipients of Mississippi Humanities Teacher Awards, which will be presented virtually, Mar. 26 at 7 p.m.
Ward, who is the 2021 recipient, has been an English instructor at ICC since 2007. Stevenson, the 2020 recipient, has been employed with ICC since 2006 and is currently instructor of Fine Arts.
The awards will be presented virtually and will stream over the Mississippi Humanities Councilâs Facebook and YouTube channels.
The Humanities Teacher Awards pay tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of Mississippiâs institutions of higher learning. Although 2020-21 came with its own new set of challenges, humanities faculty at Mississippiâs colleges and universities continue to engage in significant work in their classrooms (or home offices), nurturing studentsâ capacity to think critically and creatively, to ....
