The championship games at the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament will have a local flair on Saturday night. No. 17 Nowata and No. 4 Oklahoma Union square off for the boy’s title at 8:30 p.m. and Oklahoma Union and Mannford will play for the girl’s championship at 7 p.m.
The two Nowata County rivals share a great degree of familiarity. Nowata head coach Gary Hollingshead is the father of two of the Cougars best players Kade and Jace Hollingshead.
On the court Nowata has been potent. The Ironmen have notched 24 three’s in the first two rounds of the tournament. This will be Nowata’s first title game appearance in this event since 2017 and they have not won it since 2016. ....
