Village merchants group stepping back from 'rushed' Wall Street closure plan

An ongoing discussion about Puesto La Jolla’s recent application to extend its use of parking spaces on Wall Street for outdoor dining for up to five years was taken up by the La Jolla Traffic & Transportation Board, which ultimately decided to continue the discussion next month pending further details.
LJVMA Executive Director Jodi Rudick and board member Andy Fotsch said they met to evaluate what it would take to close the space for the test run, which Fotsch said “seemed rushed.”
“The idea of using Wall Street as a pedestrian plaza is a phenomenal idea and it can really be used well, but we have to plan it well,” he said. “We’re back to the brainstorming stage of it. Ideas have been thrown out there for mini art festivals, a second farmers market during the week or something like that.” ....

Parks & Beaches board seeks barrier extension at Scripps Park belvedere
The La Jolla Parks & Beaches board last week unanimously approved drafting a letter to send to the city of San Diego asking that it extend the fence around one of the belvederes at Scripps Park.
“There is a 3-foot-wide opening on either side of the belvedere that leads people down to the bluff,” said trustee Melinda Merryweather. “What happens is … through the years of people pounding down on either side of that belvedere, it has worn the sand and dirt down. Then people get in front of the belvedere to take pictures of people in the belvedere. It’s a huge safety issue.” ....

An ongoing discussion about Puesto La Jolla’s recent application to extend its use of parking spaces on Wall Street for outdoor dining for up to five years was taken up by the La Jolla Traffic & Transportation Board, which ultimately decided to continue the discussion next month pending further details.
The restaurant’s plan would keep Puesto’s current pedestrian plaza also called a parklet, or structure built over the parking spaces “with some modifications pending,” including a ramp to ensure the plaza complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Puesto’s director of construction, Nick Sandvig, said at the April 21 T&T meeting. ....

Puesto La Jolla restaurant in The Village has applied for a coastal development permit that would keep its current outdoor dining area, built on the parking spaces outside Puesto’s Wall Street location down to Herschel Avenue, as a “placemaking pedestrian plaza” for up to five years.
Puesto management has applied for a coastal development permit that would keep the current outdoor dining area as a “placemaking pedestrian plaza” for community use. San Diego city representatives said they could not disclose when a decision is expected on the permit.
According to project details described by the San Diego Development Services Department, the plan includes “a 1,278-square-foot deck that covers nine existing angled parking spaces in the public right of way at 1026 and 1044 Wall St.,” a 0.63-acre site. ....
